Hot spot and self proclaimed dance & cruise bar MJ's is located in the heart of the Silverlake neighborhood of Los Angeles - nestled on the corner of Hyperion and Rowena.
The crowd at MJ's is a neighborhood one; where you get everything from leather men, boys, daddy's, twinks and guys somewhere in between.
A non-descript exterior with the metallic letters "MJ's" above the entrance conceals the inside like forbidden fruit and makes you want to see what waits beyond the door.
Once on the other side MJ's interior is a hot combo of dungeon, edgy and retro all rolled into one giving it a friendly yet cruisy feel. The black walls are adorned with plaster casted male torsos, that recall the heyday of the notorious "Cynthia Plaster Caster" and her male genital memorials.
To add to the atmosphere of electricity a wall sized poster of Fassbinder's gay sailor film "Querelle" starring the then hunky Brad Davis adorns a wall in the corner of the bar.
The bar itself is the center of the club a large circular island that makes getting served your drink of choice quite easy and pleasant. The liquor itself is held up in the center area with industrial strength chains giving another shading to the promise of decadence in the atmosphere.
Wednesday night brings karaoke to the MJ's stage, with hot daddy's and their boys getting their inner diva on - or turning eachother on in a dark corner.
Sunday afternoon rolls out the famous MJ's beer bust and Bar B Q. With beer and margarita specials with burgers and large hot sausages to wrap your lips around. Grilled on the roomy outdoor patio with allowing plenty of space for a friendly mingle or an aggressive cruise.
The DJ booth hovers above the large dance floor with a bird's eye view of all the things that go bump in the dark at MJ's.
MJ's also hosts various special events throughout the year. With all this one can see why MJ's is Silverlake's go to spot for fun and frolic seven nights a week.
