In 1997, Herban Kitchen chef and owner Rob Zurlino decided to create the Classic American Restaurant with a gay-friendly twist. In the intervening years, Herban Kitchen has become popular enough to be one of the most successful Fort Lauderdale restaurants. The restaurant serves a mixed clientele of gay and straight locals and travelers.
The reason that the Herban Kitchen has been such a successful Ft. Lauderdale restaurant is that it offers both quality and quantity of food. Zurlino was born and raised in Springfield, Massachusetts close to West Springfield where his family's renowned restaurant was located. Growing up within the restaurant business, he learned how to cook well and today adds his own personal flair in the dishes served at this Fort Lauderdale hot spot. Those enjoying a meal at Herban Kitchen will realize that Zurlino has also developed the ability to present dishes with the most divine perfection.
Zurino's cooking is a reflection of his New England roots. He summons the magic that his mother, Georgia, created in her kitchen when he was a boy. Inspired by his mother's kitchen, the decor of the restaurant will transport you back to another time. At the Herban Kitchen, it's not just dinner - it's a dining experience!
Herban Kitchen is known as the "Home of the Complete Dinner." Diners are delighted to start every meal with Chef Rob's homemade soup and assortment of fresh breads. Next it's on to the salad, an experience in itself. Waiters bring a colorful basket of homemade dressings in interesting bottles to the table, each containing 4 or 5 of Rob's homemade brews! Choose one, but sample them all! The dressings have become so popular that they are now sold in one-quart mason jars in flavors like Papaya, Mango, and Raspberry Vinaigrettes, Roasted Red Pepper, Creamy Garlic, and Maple Balsamic Vinaigrette.
After the salad experience, be prepared to order your entree, and there are about thirty to choose from on this continental menu. It features Seafood, Steaks, Pasta and Pizza, Chicken, Veal, and Pork to name a few. The portions are generous, but leave room for the special desserts. Chef Rob prepares all desserts on premise. It makes a girl (or a boy) giddy just thinking about it.
