Gay Friendly Palm Springs

Hot sun, hot springs, and hot bodies combine to make Palms Springs one of the most popular gay vacation sites in America. As one of the most well known gay friendly desert hotspots, the Palm Springs area has developed substantially over the last decade. Its ability to maintain a village scale, smaller town feel than many of its gay-popular California counterparts makes for a unique locale with hot appeal on every level. Set at the foot of Mount San Jacinto, the Palm Springs scenery is dramatic and its climate enviable. Sunny most days of the year with temperatures dropping significantly in the evenings, there are opportunities to don a variety of wardrobes as darkness settles in the desert - and the boys turn up their own variety of heat.

Golf tournaments, tennis matches, resorts, restaurants and rainbow flags inspire a vibrant, welcoming atmosphere throughout the village. Whether you have been to Palm Springs before or are making your first visit, you're guaranteed to be pleasantly surprised by its natural beauty and gay friendly appeal. With an exciting gay nightlife, cultural exhibits, and a unique desert community atmosphere, this city is sure to fulfill all your needs for a great gay travel experience - for business, vacation, or a little bit of both!

Where to Stay Gay Friendly Hotels in Palm Springs

Palm Springs is most well known for an array of more than three dozen guesthouses with a variety of personalities to suit every gay visitor's needs. A cluster of guesthouse are concentrated in the Warm Springs area of Palm Springs while others are dispersed throughout the city - often neatly tucked away with their own private atmosphere. While Palm Spring's guesthouses generally offer a more intimate feel than some of the city's gay friendly hotels, the decor and atmospheres range broadly - as do the sexual temperatures. Before selecting your home base, think about your own preferences (high cruisiness factor versus laidback atmosphere? boisterous partiers versus quiet neighbors?) to ensure a perfect match between the guesthouse environment and your envisioned vacation.

If bigger is better for you then there are a variety of large, nationally recognized accommodations with gay friendly atmospheres like Hyatt Grand Champions, the Marquis, Riviera and Wyndham. Or think about natural hot springs in town at the Spa Hotel. Looking to escape the conventional world of rules and regulations? Check out the Desert Paradise, a clothing optional desert resort for men!

Whatever your needs, there is a gay friendly hotel or guest house for you. You can view a few of our favorites below, peruse the full list, or refine your search by clicking on the type of hotel you prefer in the city directory on the left of this page.

See and Do Gay Friendly Activities and Attractions in Palm Springs

Charming fairs, energetic parties, and interesting festivals throughout Palm Springs contribute to the city's unique atmosphere of gay celebration and good times. Every Thursday night, on Palm Canyon Drive in the heart of downtown, the street is transformed into VillageFest, a bustling fair of artisans, craftsmen, food vendors and entertainers.

If you want to be where the boys are, Palm Springs is also host to The White Party - one of the West Coast's largest gay festivals, drawing more than 20,000 men to the valley. The party is usually held in April to coincide with Spring break and boasts 3 days and 3 nights of unforgettable dance parties featuring THE biggest DJ's in the world and a Spring Break Weekend you won't soon forget.

Each November, the Palm Springs Gay Pride Parade draws more than 30,000 people from regions in the Coachella Valley and beyond. What began as a proud picnic has grown to be an exciting three day festival and parade featuring art exhibits, disco and western dance floors, a main stage entertainment, and hundreds of vendor booths.

In January each year, the Palm Springs International Film Festival features films from around the world at a variety of theaters in Palm Springs for one of country's largest film festivals. The International Festival of short films held in the fall is another popular crowd drawer in the area.

Outdoors, you will find world-class golf and tennis, with both resort-based and public facilities. The course at La Quinta is a favorite, with spectacular vistas (and, unfortunately, prices to match). If you prefer something less energetic, you'll fit in perfectly by the pool practicing Palm Springs other most popular activity: rest and relaxation. Most poolside scenes have outdoor misting as an amenity - a must have for lounging poolside in sunny CA.

Knott's Soak City Water Park, operated by the people behind Knott's Berry Farm, features a wild water slide called the Black Widow, and 15 other water attractions, complete food service and private cabana rentals. It is open daily from mid-March through Labor Day and on weekends in September and October.

Other local attractions include the Palm Springs Aerial Tramway, ancient Indian Canyons, Living Desert Reserve, the Palm Springs Desert Museum, Joshua Tree National Park, Palm Springs Air Museum, Moorten Botanical Garden and the lush landscaping throughout the desert oasis. Golf tournaments, such as the Bob Hope Chrysler Classic and the Kraft Nabisco Championship are also among popular activities for visitors in Palm Springs.

The Aerial Tramway is a thrilling cable car ride that shuttles visitors from the desert floor to the heights of Mt. San Jacinto. At various times throughout the year, you might experience a 40-degree temperature drop in just a few minutes! When you arrive at the top, there are hiking trails, mule rides, a cocktail bar and a restaurant. Many visitors just hop up for the view, or it can be a starting point for many outdoor activities.

East Arenas Road in downtown Palm Springs offers exclusively gay restaurants or gay-friendly eateries where you may choose to dine indoors or out on one of the many patio gardens with unique desert landscaping and views. Gay restaurants and cafes serve American, Mexican, Italian and Thai food, and a variety of other cuisine.

While the area boasts a few high-end shopping malls, it is off-price, outlet and discount shopping that is pervasive. An array of fun and festive shops can be found on the world famous Palm Canyon Drive. For more shopping options, take a stroll down El Paseo Drive or check out the Town Center Mall in Palm Desert.

As if sunny skies, warm weather, and high sexual temperatures aren't appealing enough, gay Palm Springs bundles the joy with a picturesque landscape, entertaining attractions, sports facilities, and a year round reason to lounge. The citys natural beauty and must-see attractions are what has made Palm Springs so popular as a gay travel destination.
