Since 1980, Kerbey Lane has been a hallowed rite of passage for anyone in Austin who has been up past midnight and had the munchies. Tucked away on an otherwise obscure, quaint street in central Austin, housed an old converted house, Kerbey Lane serves amazing food twenty-four freakin' hours a day, catering to an eccentric mix of college students craving the famous Kerbey Queso on a study break; hipsters enjoying a Saturday hangover brunch, wolfing down the equally famous pancakes; or even families enjoying a wholesome meal after church. Much like Austin itself, Kerbey Lane manages to attract and satisfy an effortless mix of wildly different clientele.
Breakfast is served 24 hours a day, including the aforementioned pancakes which come in such eccentric varieties as buttermilk, gingerbread, apple whole wheat, and blueberry - and yes, they're all as tasty as they sound. Also recommended is the omelet, which you can have whipped up in ten, yes, ten different drool-inducing incarnations, including portobello, chicken verde, Benedictine, baked potato, and Spinach, Mushroom & Artichoke. Lunch and dinner choices are equally numerous and mouth-watering, including sandwiches and salads featuring the best dressings in town (try the ginger-soy, tomato basil, or balsamic vinaigrette) and unique Kerbey variations on traditional dishes, such as their Pecan Crusted Trout and Greek Chicken.
Kerbey Lane chow became so explosively in demand that they've expanded to three other Austin locations: adjacent to the University of Texas campus (2606 Guadalupe), in trendy South Austin (2700 S. Lamar), or northwest (12602 Research Blvd.). Kerbey Lane is so popular that it's almost as hard to get a server job there as it is to become an FBI agent. And hey, they've got amazing artwork from local artists on display and for sale.
All Kerbey Lane locations are open 24-7 except on Thanksgiving and Christmas.
