This is not your (leather) daddy's OilCan's anymore. This longtime Austin stalwart, dubbed "The Can" by locals, is proudly showing off an impressive recent remodeling job, including the installation of sexy flat-screen video monitors and an improved lighting and sound system. Unchanged is the allure of the friendly bar staff, many of whom have worked there (by choice) for years and know their patrons by name as well as their favorite drinks.

Aggressively engaged in a friendly competition with its newest neighbor down the street, Rain, OilCan's features an impressive array of events each night of the week, designed to appeal to the tastes, both high and low, of its crowd of attractive young professionals and college students (and remember, there are 100,00 college students in Austin ? yum!). Highlights include Monday Martini Gong Show Karaoke, The Gay Dating Game on Tuesdays, the subtly named Chicken Night with Amateur Strip Competition on Thursdays, and Sunday Burgers from 5pm to 8pm on, you guessed it, Sundays. Happy hour runs long and wet, from 2pm to 10pm every day of the week, so watch your intake even if you don't have to watch your pocketbook.

Oil Can's features three different bars to choose from, one of which is located outside in one of the best patio areas of any Austin gay hangout. Another bar is up front, adjacent to the always-sizzling dance floor lorded over by excellent DJs, as well as a bar adjacent to the pool table in a room with a slightly more mellow atmosphere should you wish to hear yourself, or your potential mate, in conversation.

Age policy is 21 and up, except on Wednesdays, when -- speaking of chicken -- 18 year-olds are welcome.
