Known affectionately as "the B", Burkhart's is a tried and true gay friendly establishment that's gained a loyal following. It's ideal for stopping by after a tough day at the office to tie one on for some barroom therapy. And, the landscape cranks it up a notch on the weekends with a glittering backdrop of danceable beats - although no one actually gets their groove on (no dance floor).
And if you can't find any hotties, then scope out the patio. Strewn with pretty boys and a few of the muscle men, glitz meets retro on this terrace. Serving as an oasis from the sometimes intense bar scene, you can chill out and spend time with friends, clients, or hook-ups with potent drinks while dining alfresco.
Spectators abound on the mezzanine where the action is less intense, but it's a great way to size up the eye candy on the main floor. And the drag show on Thursday night hosted by the infamous Miss Kitty LeClaw is not to be missed. The campy-trampy event draws a fabulous crowd that's ready to mingle into the wee hours. Just make sure you go early for good seats and are prepared to party, as the show does not begin until 1:00 AM.
The crowd is good-looking and friendly. And the vibe at Burkhart's is not pretentious, but you definitely get the feeling that everyone is somehow connected. So, beware that you might be working overtime to meet someone new, but regulars agree that if you make the effort, "the B" is the perfect environment to connect with someone for an evening tryst.
And no matter what, where else in Atlanta are you gonna get a surprisingly good steak dinner for under $5? The new revamped menu is extremely well priced, and for bar fare, the food is better than average. For cuties, karaoke, and cocktails, "the B" is an out-and-out perfect combination. And just in case your favorite fag-hag needs to party, this place is uber female friendly. But not to worry, the main focus will always be on the boys at Burkhart's Atlanta!
I've been going to Burkharts for years. Always a fun time - campy drag shows - friendly bartenders and affordable drinks. Oh - the guys in the crowd aren't so bad either! By: Shawn on April 19, 2009
